The Uncertainty of Faith
Diperbarui: 4 Jul 2019
We are called by God to be people of faith instead of simply people of belief. The reason for this is that if we live in the world of belief we feel safe and comfortable, but faith locates us on the edge where life is uncertain and uncomfortable. Also, belief is often related to religiosity and an institutionalised version of the Christian faith that requires certainty. Whereas risk and challenge characterise faith for it is concerned with a relationship with Jesus Christ, and it is content with uncertainty. Faith requires a lifelong commitment to journeying with Jesus and pursuing a life of obedience to him. The only thing that is certain about the journey of faith is that Jesus goes ahead of us on the journey, and he sustains us on the way. It’s not that belief is insignificant but that it must always take a secondary role to faith in Jesus Christ.
